Look. I'm not some tree-hugging hippy, and I don't think I've ever spoken about this sort of stuff before...but, I am outraged about this post right here.

READ THAT. I am about to fucking vomit. I have read some horrible things, but this one is the worst I've read in a while.

I know some/a lot of you are animal lovers. I refuse to sit still for this, and I hope you all agree with me. Even if 2 of you agree, this post did some good.

I already wrote to PETA and to this woman's school. Please, please, please send off an email to one of these addresses. It DOES make a difference. As it stands, it appears this woman will not have any kind of criminal charges pressed against her, and she'll continue to teach.

I understandably was unable to read the entire article. Having held a tiny, two-month-old rabbit in the palm of my hand and see him grow into one of the best pets ever, I cannot imagine the level of depravity a person would have to display to heartlessly murder two day-old bunnies--in front of her entire class, no less. Please say something to these people if it matters at all to you.

I had a long reply to this. But I'll shorten it and just say that I hope you read far enough into it. They believe it might have been a lesson in a farming type situation.

I think they've blown it out of proportion. People's emotions are overshadowing the facts. I'll post more later in my LJ, because something has happened in my area this week that people treated the same way.

In the article, it claims that her first thought at killing the rabbits was to bury them alive. Only after the students disagreed strongly did she beat them to death with a shovel.

At no time on any farm have I ever heard of a farmer deciding to bury one of their animals alive.

That's not humane, that's insane.

Also, bear in mind that any e-mail you send is considered a public record, per Florida Statute 119. So don't write anything you wouldn't want someone else seeing, especially if your name or contact information's attached.

That is just plain wrong, on so many accounts. I mean, the humane thing would be to put them out of their misery, since I was led to believe that they were rejected, sickly and dying anyway. But to turn them into kibble in front of horrified students?! Way to go you fuckin moron!

Exactly. I can't say anything about the fact that they were killed at all, since it very well may have been the best thing for them, but how it was done and the teacher's whole attitude about the entire event is just plain wrong. :/

I've been waiting to send e-mails until after I've calmed down a bit from finding out about it. I've learned that sending e-mails when I'm still all heated up over something never results in constructive anything. ;P

You have no idea what really goes on when a baby rabbit is born. If a mother rejects the animals then they are left for dead. These bunnies in particular were left for dead by their mother and were too young to fight the enumerable amounts of ants attacking them. You may not have know but there were actually three rabbits that were burried. The reason Mrs. Bender was not criminally prosecuted was because the first rabbit was already dead and half eaten by the ants. The other two were almost dead and would never had lived. Mrs. Bender may have made a poor decision about putting these animals out of their misery in front of the class. However, she did what had to be done. I would have done the same thing. There was no need for the rabbits to suffer any longer. I would be shamed if I were you, for wanting these rabbits to suffer a slow agonizing death. But hey I'm not you.

I'm glad you're not me. I would be ashamed if I were you--you post a comment to me rife with poor grammar and spelling (maybe they're just typos, but it severely detracts from your attempt at an argument either way...), and you don't even have the pride to stand behind your words and identify yourself.

Additionally, I never said that the bunnies were not better off dying sooner rather than later. In fact, I specifically said that I didn't know their actual condition and they may very well have needed to be euthanized. However, the manner in which Mrs. Bender brutally murdered those bunnies in front of her class was un-called-for and absolutely atrocious. It disgusts me that you feel you'd do the same thing.

The next time you want to attack me in my journal, get your facts straight first, and then do a spell- and grammar-check before posting your comment--with some sort of identification to show that you value what you have to say to me.
