This came up yesterday while I was at Yale, and I'm really curious if I'm the only one who pronounces this word the way I do, as seems to be the case after yesterday's conversation...

If you chose "other" for your response to the previous question, try as best as you can to explain how you pronounce it here.

(Also, was very confused -- before you changed the poll with sher-bitsher-bit... quite a mouthful. ;)
I think it's funny and cute, especially when Alexis was like, "When we finally get you to compete at the comps, we'll chant, 'Go Sherbert!'" XD
And yeah, I don't know why it did that. I was hoping I fixed it fast enough that not many people noticed it. :x
If I had seen "sherbet" on the containers as a child I would be saying it sher-bet today. heee
And yeah, the reason I don't pronounce it "sher-bert" is because that's not how I'd seen it spelt.
i remember hearing that sherbet has dairy in it and sorbet doesn't...
i have no idea about the 'fizzy powder' bit, though i know most basic [like, served at large gatherings] fruit punches involve ginger ale and sherbet?
Also, I love your very linguistic-y analysis of your pronunciation! I figured I could count on you for a very good response to this. ;D
Which is my standard reaction to uncertainties in pronunciation. I also don't call very many people by name, because I'm afraid I'll either have forgotten their name or pronounced it wrong (no matter how long I've known them or how many times I've heard other people call them by that name).
My name is easy to pronounce, so at least you don't have to worry about saying it wrong. Not that I'd be bothered if you did, lord knows just about everyone calls me anything but Melody until I've corrected them a few times. ;P
I saw you in

My username comes from the song "Come September" by Natalie Imbruglia. It's my favorite song, and also my birthday is in September. :)
