Roommate Preference Poll
Through the course of a meandering train of thought yesterday while I was waiting for the bus, I got the idea for this poll. There's absolutely no reason behind it except I was curious as to how other people's opinions related to mine. :)

Poll #193183 Roommate Gender Preference

If you were going to move into an apartment and were going to share it with someone for whatever reason, both of you having separate bedrooms, would you prefer to room with someone of the same or opposite sex?

I'm male and would prefer to room with a man.
6(13.0%)
I'm male and would prefer to room with a woman.
8(17.4%)
I'm female and would prefer to room with a man.
10(21.7%)

Random attack by the Oolong icon!
You didn't have my option! :p

I'd rather room with a guy, but since that goes against my morals, I'd be forced to room with a female. And, seeing as I dislike most females (you not included, of course), I would rather stick shards of broken glass under my eyelids. So that's my answer. Shards of broken glass under my eyelids.

Re: Random attack by the Oolong icon!
The situation here seems entirely platonic--a friend or acquaintance living under the same roof, shared facilities, separate bedrooms. How's that against your morals?

Re: Random attack by the Oolong icon!
I have just learned a valuable life lesson: drinking water while reading comments from Teh Ashley may be hazardous to the life of your keyboard. Thankfully I was able to contain the water in my mouth while laughing! XD

Re: Random attack by the Oolong icon!
Oh, and you really ought to go on AIM sometime soon. Or IM me (impatientwhisper) if you're using a screenname I don't know about, but you wouldn't mind me knowing. :)

Re: Random attack by the Oolong icon!
I second what Ashley said about AIM, I'm sullyedo, when I'm on. im not on too often because i forget to turn the program on, but comments in my journal along the lines of "hey! get on AIM, you nutbunny!" tend to make me resolve this.

if i just wrote a non coherent sentence its because it's 5:36 am and i'm high on "make a new lj style! now! it cant wait until you get a decent nights sleep!" bunnies.

must. do. day view. and calendar view. before putting on jourbal.

my mother has been trying to convince me that it's against my morals to have overnight guests,

Okay, so I said I'd rather room with a woman. But that's just cuase for that one time of the month I'd want to have a girl around, you know? Plus, I'd want to room with someone who knew how to cook. Cause I, uhh, can't. Seriously, I'm not allowed to cook rice.

On the other hand, I hate the smell of hairspray and nail polish and I honestly couldn't stand to have the bathroom filled with makeup and junk.

So I guess I'd want to room with a woman as long as we each had our own bathrooms.

...or unless the woman were me :p

Oh please, you wear nail polish.

But yeah, I guess I could live with you. You could live with me, right? *wide eyes* right?
Fairly Unbalancedopal1159 on October 17th, 2003 09:34 pm (UTC)
I did my nails last month for the third time in my life =P
janavolantwish on October 17th, 2003 09:47 pm (UTC)
Oh please, you wear nail polish.

not often...

i only do my nails for dances. unless i'm bored and make them black with silver sparkles...but i don't think that counts.

Chris Schmidtcrschmidt on July 29th, 2008 12:26 am (UTC)
I don't think I've ever seen your nails black with silver sparkles! Of course, as this entire conversation was nearly 5 years ago, that's probably not surprising.
Melody: mecomeseptember on October 17th, 2003 08:30 pm (UTC)
I'd actually considered making the separate bathrooms thing a condition as well. I'd be more inclined to live with a woman with separate bathrooms, though I'd still prefer to room with a man.
Jessica Robinavantgardening on October 17th, 2003 08:23 pm (UTC)
I actually wouldn't have a preference.

As long as no offensive smell comes from their area of their house/apartment, male or female would be just fine.

A "Three's Company" situation wouldn't be that bad, either.
Melody: bunneh eyecomeseptember on October 17th, 2003 08:26 pm (UTC)
I guess I should have made no preference an option, too. Silly me thinking in black and white terms. ;P

yes you should.. i was jus about to tell you that...

I'm female, and I don't care :o)

I've missed you, Melody. I really have. xxx
Melody: happycomeseptember on October 18th, 2003 06:10 pm (UTC)
I was honestly pretty hurt when you had removed me from your friends list because you were the last person I ever expected to remove me. I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I saw you answered this poll, and then I noticed you'd added me back to your friends list. I immediately did the same, and I currently have your journal open to the last entry I read so I can catch up. :)

I haven't stopped regularly visiting your site, waiting for you to get around to reopening it, and I plan on spending the night reading your journal to find out what you've been up to.

Hee, that's me very wordily saying I've really missed you, too. :) :)

xoxoxo
Bblob on October 18th, 2003 06:15 pm (UTC)
I deleted a lot of people that day, and I really regretted removing a lot of them, to tell you the truth - you very much included. I gradually added back most of the people who'd kept me on their lists but didn't chase up those who'd deleted me too. Then I saw a comment you made in Kacy's journal and felt a pang of Melody-missing. :( I hope you don't hate me and that you forgive me for being a meanie. At the time, I didn't think you'd really notice if I removed you. :/
Melody: hopecomeseptember on October 18th, 2003 06:27 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I know you deleted a lot of people that day, so I think I wasn't as upset as I could've been if it'd only been me. And it took me weeks before I deleted you--after I hadn't seen an entry of yours in a while, I figured you'd started posting friends-only, and sadly concluded that I probably wouldn't be seeing entries from you on my friends page anymore.

Any time I saw comments of yours in Kacy's journal, I missed reading your entries and talking with you.

I most certainly don't hate you, and I never was upset with you--just upset in general that we'd lost touch. So I definitely forgive you. *hugs* :)
Bblob on October 18th, 2003 06:30 pm (UTC)
Thank you. *hugs* I really have missed you, and have checked your journal from time to time, reading your public entries. But for some reason I reallyreallyreally started missing youa few days ago and I'm not sure why! Not that I should need a reason. :P

xxxxxxx So pleased to "have you back". :)
Melody: thoughtfulcomeseptember on October 18th, 2003 10:37 pm (UTC)
And now I just finished catching up. I would have posted comments on the entries directly, but I figured I'd condense it into one comment instead so you didn't have an Inbox full of comments from me. ;D

I am so envious of you buying a new house to live with Claire in. :) I'd love to be at a point like that in my life, but it is nice to think that I've had little tastes of it while visiting with Scott. Snuggling up to someone you really care about at night and falling asleep in their arms is a such wonderful feeling. :)

When I read your entry about what happened in Rome, I kept thinking about when I left NYU. I went through almost all of the same emotions: panic, terror, anger, sadness, loneliness, everything. Of course, I think yours was more extreme because of how far you were away from home (I was only an hour-long car ride, you were thousands of miles...), but it was almost comforting to know that I know someone who's been through the same thing now. I felt terrible for you having to go through that, but I can honestly say I know how you felt, and it's a somewhat good feeling. :]

I love your voice! :D Your accent is fabulous, and I love how you speak in German and French! I'm saving the files on my computer. :) And I really ought to get around to making some recordings of my voice for people to listen to. ;P

I was going to point out that we use a lot of those words on your list of things Americans don't say that you use in Britain, but then I noticed that a lot of people already made that clear to you. ;D I understood probably 90% of the words immediately and have heard/used maybe 60%.

Lastly, I feel like nothing's been different the past few months and that we've still been keeping up with each other now that I've read all that. I'm glad to "have you back," too. :D
Bblob on October 18th, 2003 06:17 pm (UTC)
Pssst, I've been reading your past entries for most of the evening too. :)
Melody: magiccomeseptember on October 18th, 2003 06:28 pm (UTC)
There's so many, though! I write almost every day! Definitely don't feel like you need to read them all. :]
Tulpen Schweiss: fairytulpen on January 15th, 2004 11:39 am (UTC)
You didn't have any option for "I don't care as long as they're very tidy and don't smell bad." I'd rather just live alone, but if I had to pick from your poll, I guess I'd say I'm female and would prefer to room with a woman.

(I found you today and your website is very pretty, so I'm going to add you to my list if you don't mind. )
Melody: mecomeseptember on January 15th, 2004 05:20 pm (UTC)
Hehe. Thanks for your answer, even if there wasn't a choice for it!

As your journal doesn't have very much in it, I couldn't get a very good idea of what you're like. Even still, I've added you to my friends list, and you can read most of my entries now. If I find that I like you--through commenting and whatnot, I'll add you to more filters. However, please don't be offended if I don't feel like we make much of a connection. You seem nice, but I tend to easily drift away from people I don't have a lot of contact with (usually through lots of journaling interaction, as I generally don't regularly talk with many people in IM).

And thank you for the compliment on my web site. :)
Frederik "Freso" S. Olesenfreso on February 8th, 2004 07:49 am (UTC)

Okay, you don't know me, but I know some of the people you know and who know you, and, yeah. ... o.O *shuts up, takes a breath, starts over*

I wouldn't mind it being neither female nor male, as long as it was someone I knew at least somewhat and was comfortable with. But I picked female somewhat randomly. So, yeah.
And as long as they wouldn't make a total mess of the bathroom, I wouldn't mind that being shared either. :P

Melody: mecomeseptember on February 8th, 2004 07:54 am (UTC)
Hehe, yeah, bathroom mess would definitely be an issue for me. I couldn't tolerate anyone who left the bathroom a mess. ;P
