Meeting Webcomic Authors
It is very disappointing to come home after a long weekend away to a computer utterly devoid of waiting IMs. :[

However, the fun of today more than makes up for it! I sat in on two panels at I-CON today ("Why People Suck" with Jonathan Rosenberg of Goats fame and Randy Milholland, the author of Something Positive, and "Dammit! I am Evil, Not Cute!" with the same plus Chris Cracknell of Ghastly's Ghastly Comic), and they were a fabulously good time. :D Jon is rather quiet, but makes up for it by being wonderfully witty when he does speak up, Randy is very outspoken and totally hilarious in person (I particularly liked his comment on how we have a particularly good-smelling con at Stony Brook XD XD), and Ghastly did a great job of turning the second panel in directions it didn't need to go a couple of times. ;D They better be coming back next year!!

Earlier in the day, I'd spotted the Goats table in the Sports Complex and took the opportunity to pick something up:

An Autographed Mini-Comic!
It's an absolutely hysterical mini-comic that Jon autographed for me!
Apparently I rock and need to continue doing so! XD

Phillip called near the start of the second panel, and Jon had everyone yell "hi"--and Phillip hung up. What a meanie. ;]

After the panels, I went up to Randy to check out the book of art he'd brought with him and wound up getting a signed original SP art that I liked because it was really personal with a frustrated exclamation and some incomplete-ish parts, heh. (Also, the really, really nice ones were well beyond my budget. ;P)

Lastly, I waited around for other people to finish buying art, and got my photo taken with Randy!

Randy Milholland and Me

After I started walking away, I noticed he'd reached his hand out, and I turned back around to shake it, since he'd just shaken this one guy's hand before the photo with me, and he stopped me, gave me a big hug, and said, "I give hugs to girls!" XD He passed me and Kathleen (not the one I go to ballroom dance with) in the hallway a few minutes later on his way out and said hello and good-bye again. He's a really nice guy. You know, underneath all the sarcasm and nasty wit. ;D
Current Mood: bouncybouncy
Current Music: Cowboy Bebop - Bad Dog No Biscuits (I'm SO GLAD I bought this soundtrack at I-CON!)

Don't worry about it, and I've already checked out the comm before.

Yeah I reliazed later on that there's a link on the site. I wasn't thinking clearly last night.

It's okay. It's not blatantly obvious anyway. ;P

Thank you! Muchly!

I was most definitely not expecting any comments like that on this entry. But I appreciate it. A lot. :)
Sarahsarahsparrow on March 28th, 2004 08:32 pm (UTC)
You're so cute! I don't know who this goats person is but, my boyfriend got all excited that you met him but, I don't know who he is :(
Melody: bunneh eyecomeseptember on March 28th, 2004 08:41 pm (UTC)
Thank you! :x

And maybe that means you should check out the comic's site... ;)
Entirely Sonjaentirelysonja on March 29th, 2004 05:20 am (UTC)
Aww... that is such a great photo of you. The expression on your face is just the best!
Melody: mecomeseptember on March 29th, 2004 10:21 am (UTC)
Thank you! :) I was pretty happy with it, too. I haven't had any photos of me taken recently, so I was glad this one came out nice. :)
Ueberdan: Beavis (ROCK!)spiral2000 on March 29th, 2004 08:01 am (UTC)
I didn't see you at all -- But damn, you're all skinny now! More so than when I saw you last. That's crazy.

ICON rocked this year. I saw the panel with that something-positive guy but it was most likely the one you weren't in. Ohwell -- it was really fun anyway.
Melody: thoughtfulcomeseptember on March 29th, 2004 10:27 am (UTC)
I really haven't lost that much weight since then. Maybe ten pounds or so? It's probably just what I was wearing. But thank you very much. :)

You must've seen the one he did on Saturday--I was watching RotK at that time. You should've come to the others, then I could've seen you! I'd looked for you whenever I was in the dealers' room, but never spotted you. It was rather disappointing, since I saw just about everyone else over the course of the weekend. :/
Eight Wishes8wishes on March 29th, 2004 05:32 pm (UTC)
You look like Alexis Bledel (Rory on Gilmore Girls) in that picture. Except that your hair is wavy and hers isn't. ;)
Melody: magiccomeseptember on March 29th, 2004 05:42 pm (UTC)
You're not the first person to tell me I look like her! I guess I'm going to have to start believing people when they say it. ;D
Papa Tango: Phillip (but not me)beracjade on April 3rd, 2004 06:30 am (UTC)
okay, you now fall into the category of "people i am jealous of but have never met."

jon's a great guy, someone i've e-mail several times over the last 6 years. it's funny, i started reading the comic because scott liked it and because jon's a conrell alumnus, and now i read it because i'm a massive fanboy. heh. (how much of a fanboy? i have three goats-related icons)
Melody: magiccomeseptember on April 3rd, 2004 06:37 am (UTC)
Hehehe! :D Apparently he's been going to I-CON every year for the past several years. I'll likely get to see him again next year! Maybe you could find a way to go to one of the cons they're going to in the future? :]

He and Randy played really well off each other during the panels. They were so much fun--even my sister thought Jon and Randy were great, and she had no idea who they were (aside from Randy being "the guy who does the comic with the no-bones cat" ;]). I'm really hoping they'll be at I-CON doing panels together again next year. :)

I started reading it because you brought it up in comments way back in like June or something--with respect to the icon you just used, then Scott gave me a little list of webcomics he particularly likes. I don't think I'm as quite into it as either of you, but I am more interested now that I "know" the person behind it. :D
